Hey guys!
I just wanted to say that I loved the way my pastor broke it down on how to reconize the voice of God. I get confused alot and wonder if it’s me, God, or satan. I loved how he gave us questions to ask ourselves to test the spirit and see who’s voice it is. And also how he broke down matt 13, our old filters that need to be removed. The Lord showed me what ground i was and where my seeds were going. now have to figure out (with Holy Spirits help) how to make it fall into good ground!
For me, the first barrier to get over is, does God even want to reveal things to me? This typically begins with some out of context quoting of scripture but is really easy to take root, I’ve battled it a lot. I like how Mark 4 deals with this:
“He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand? For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.”
Whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed. Though God in his fullness is not something we can completely grasp, whatever is hidden will be disclosed and what is concealed will be revealed. That is a glimpse into God’s heart for us, that He desires to reveal to us what is concealed. But how is this accomplished in relationship?
Revelation 3:20 says, “I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door I will come in and eat with him and he with me”. God is waiting for us to enter in relationship, He knocks and calls that we would respond to his voice. I wrote a worship song out of our fast last year that we’ve played a few times and one of the lines is from this scripture and it says, “My broken life and all that it’s for, Your righteous hand banging the door”. That our righteous, holy God would come to my door, knock and call for me so He could enter into relationship with me, a dirty, unrighteous, pathetic sinner is another glimpse into God’s heart and sincerity of voice.
My last hurdle is, ok now that I know God really wants to speak to me, He desires to clarify, do I even want to know what He has to say. Can I handle the weight and responsibility of hearing from God. As James says in chapter 1, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says”. Responsibility comes with hearing the word of God. But what would God speak to us?
John 10 talks about sheep knowing the voice of their shepherd. But this to me is one of the greatest views into the Father’s heart for his children. I’ve come back to this passage for so many things. And this time it was comfort of, “Kyle, what do you think God is going to say? He is not a destroyer, God’s heart is for you”. This passage says, “the enemy comes to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life”. God’s word is to give life, his voice is for our benefit not our destruction. Verse 14 shows just how much the Father loves us, “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me–just as the Father knows me and I know the Father–and I lay down my life for the sheep.”
I have nothing to fear from his voice, but seek to follow the good shepherd who lays his life down for his sheep.
Wow Kyle! AMAZING!
Seriously Kyle, that is amazing. Thanks for ruining the rest of the blog…. that is a tough act to follow. JK.
